Junior Miracle Marathon

November 10, 2012 - 12:00 pm

We are excited to announce that the Chattanooga Track Club is partnering with Children’s Hospital Foundation to present the Junior Miracle Marathon, to benefit Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.

The Junior Miracle Marathon is for children 1st through 6th grade (school year 2012/13). Between June and November, participants run or walk a total of 25.2 miles. Special events, starting with the Market Street Miracle Mile, will be provided to help participants earn some of those miles. Miles are logged, with the help of an adult, and on November 10, the last mile will be completed on the first loop of the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon and Half Marathon course.

Registration

More details to come.

Logging Miles

Prior to November 10, 2012 Junior Marathon participants must run and/or walk a total of 25.2 miles. Miles need to be logged, with the help of an adult, using an official Junior Miracle Marathon Mileage log.

Participants may divide up the mileage however they like, although it is suggested that they log a mile at a time. Participants must complete their mileage under adult supervision. Special events to help participants earn mileage will be offered throughout the summer and fall, including the Run for Miracles Cross Country Series. Other events will be posted on this site and the Run for Miracles website, so stay tuned.

The Last Mile

On November 10, 2012 participants will jog or walk the last mile of their marathon on part of the actual Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon course. Upon completion of the 26.2 miles, runners will receive a replica of the adult marathon finisher’s medal as a keepsake for their hard work and dedication.

The start/finish will be at 6th Cavalry Museum in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. (directions)

Official Race Number

In order to receive your Official Junior Miracle Mile Race Number, you must (1) Register for the Junior Miracle Marathon and (2) complete and log 25.2 miles prior to November 10. At packet pick up, Friday, November 9, we will ask you to present your mileage log, showing the completion of 25.2 miles. At that time, you will receive your official race number, t-shirt, and goody bag. Pin your race number to the front of the shirt you will wear for the Last Mile. Medallions will be given only to those children who cross the finish line wearing an official Junior Miracle Marathon race number. We recommend pinning the number on the shirt the night before.
