Phillips & Vall Conquer Battlefied MarathonNov. 14, 2009 (Fort Oglethorpe, GA) Geno Phillips, of Chattanooga, TN, won the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon held at the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park on Saturday November 14, 2009. Phillips completed the 26.2 mile course in 2:43:06, running at an average pace of 6:14 per mile. Emily Anne Vall, of Atlanta, GA, was the female champion of the marathon in a time of 2:58:01 (6:48 pace). The half marathon was won by Greg Johnson, of Knoxville, TN in a time of 1:22:46 (6:19 per mile). Emily Cooper, of Signal Mtn, TN, was the half marathon female champion in a time of 1:33:39 (7:09 pace). This year marked the 30th running of the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon, the 2nd running for the Chickamauga Battlefield Half Marathon, and the 3rd running of the Chickamauga Battlefield Junior Marathon. The event set registration records with 600 registrants for the marathon and 900 registrants for the half marathon. Both the marathon and half marathon sold out two months before race day. Marathon Geno Phillips, of Chattanooga, TN, won the marathon in a time of 2 hours, 43 minutes, 03 seconds. Emily Anne Vall, of Atlanta, GA, was the female marathon champion, covering the course in a time of 2 hours, 58 minutes, 01 seconds. Tim Stewart, of Simpsonville, SC, won the champion of marathon male masters division (2:57:27). Christina Evans, of Canton, GA, won the marathon female masters division (3:16:39). John Tackett, of East Point, GA, won the marathon male grand masters division (3:12:55). Boonsom Hartman, of Oak Forest, IL, won the marathon female grand masters division (4:07:26). The marathon featured a 26.2 mile course with approximately 23 miles run through the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. The event started and finished at the 6th Cavalry Museum on Barnhardt Circle in historic Fort Oglethorpe. Half Marathon The half marathon was won by Greg Johnson, of Knoxville, TN, in a time of 1 hour, 22 minutes, 46 seconds. TN. Emily Cooper, of Signal Mtn, TN, was the female half marathon champion, finishing in a time of 1 hour, 33 minutes, 39 seconds. Bill Owens, of Springfield, IL, was the half marathon male masters division champion (1:25:28). Tammy Kellet, of Fort Payne, AL, was the half marathon female masters division champion (1:42:47). Steve Lemay, of Ringgold, GA, was the half marathon male grand masters division champion (1:40:05). Pam Campbell, of Centrailia, IL, was the half marathon female grand masters division champion (1:43:52). Junior Marathon The event also featured the 23rd Annual Chickamauga Junior Marathon. Designed to promote physical fitness among children and their families, the Junior Marathon was open to students enrolled in first through sixth grades. Children were able to divide up the distance in any way they liked; they just needed to run, jog, or walk a total of 25.2 miles with adult supervision before November 13. Today the junior marathoners completed the final mile of their marathon, crossing the official finish line of the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon. Runners who submitted a completed log sheet and finished the last mile received a race number, t-shirt, finisher's medal, and a goody bag.
